The race:
Started in 1947, The Swiss Tour de Romandie is one of the last pre-Giro stage races. Currently, the Giro starts a few days after the Romandie final stage.
The race is run in the French-speaking Romandie region of Switzerland.
The Tour of Romandie usually has a healthy dose of time trialing, hence the winner is usually skilled at that discipline. Being held in Switzerland, the racers can usually expect a visit to some of the famous Jura and Alpine ascents.
No single racer has been able to really dominate the Tour of Romandie with Stephen Roche being the most prolific winner with three victories.
