The race: The E3 had traditionally been held on Saturday, but for 2012 the race was moved back to Friday to give the riders a chance to rest before Gent-Wevelgem.

A 45-man group came storing into Harelbeke and Tom Boonen was the fastest. By beating Oscar Freire and the others, he became the race's most successful competitor. This victory gave him five wins in this prestigious race.

Complete results: 193 starters, 106 classified finishers, 87 abandons.
