2008 Tour de France
July 5 - July 27, 2008

Pictures from Fotoreporter Sirotti from Stage 10, Monday, July 14: Pau - Hautacam, 156 km

Leonardo Piepoli (winning the stage) and Juan Jose Cobo were clearly the best of the day.
Riccardo Ricco (right, in yellow and white) beats Carlos Sastre (on left in CSC kit) to the line in the group of the main contenders. From the left, behind them: Menchov, Vande Velde and Evans (obscured).
Here's that same group racing for the line, they are already inside the barriers. Leading, Denis Menchov, followed by Evans, Sastre and Ricco. I assume that it's Vande Velde's helmet in the very back.
I take no pleasure in being right in predicting Valverde's meltdown. He and Cunego came off on the Tourmalet and the high speed CSC imposed on the race ensured that Valverde and Cunego would be unable to rejoin the leaders. I wish Valverde's trainers would give him a slower lead-in to the season so he doesn't keep riding the Tour overtrained.
Evans was deeply moved during the awards ceremony. Can any of us even begin to imagine the stress he must be under, especially after crashing in stage 9?
