Petr Vakoc wins stage 2. Photo ©Sirotti
The Race: Sometimes the fog of war reigns. It did today. Czech rider Petr Vakoc was part of a three-man break that was allowed a hefty six-minute lead. Vakoc left his companions behind to ride the three circuits in Warsaw alone. Apparently the peloton didn't know Vakoc was gone. He crossed the line 21 seconds before Michael Matthews won the field sprint. Matthews thought he was racing for first and raised his arms in celebration.
Vakoc's 21 seconds were enough to give him the GC lead.
Note: After I posted yesterday's results the organizers recalculated the GC and gave the lead to stage winner Yauheni Hutarovich instead of Matthias Krizek. I apologize for the confusion.
