The race:
The Vuelta a Burgos is currently held in early August. The first edition in 1946 was a professional race. The 1947 race is listed a "Professional (Open)". It was not run again until 1981, and from then until 1986 it was classed as an open race.
Since 1986 it has been a professional race and was given the HC designation in 2005. In 1946 and 1947 the race had 4 stages. Since then it has fluctuated between 5 and 6 stages.
With its early to mid-August place on the racing calender, the Vuelta a Burgos is used by some riders as a pre-Vuelta tune-up.
