A Narrative History of the Vuelta
The Vuelta was not held on a consistent basis until 1955. It is only in recent years that it has really gained stature as a true "Grand Tour". In this list of winners, it is ironic that one of the greatest riders in Spanish history, Federico Bahamontes, never did better than second in his home tour.
