Story of the Tour de France

2009 Vuelta a España
August 29 - September 20, 2009

Ivan Basso turned in an indifferent ride, costing him a podium place.
Philip Deignan did well enough to stay in 9th place.
Stijn Devolder was 17th in the time trial. Devolder is furious that he was left off the Belgian world's team, but I don't think he's got the form right now and the Spanish and Italians will be formidible.
Cadel Evans spun his 55-tooth pie plate fast enough to bump Basso from the podium.
Until he crashed, Robert Gesink was in the GC hunt. He was able to preserve his consolation prize sixth place.
Samuel Sanchez was second in the stage and remained second in GC.
David Millar gets his first victory since 2007 and Garmin gets its third stage win this Vuelta.
It's a wrap. Valverde, barring misfortune, is the 2009 Vuelta champion.
