Story of the Tour de France

2009 Tour de France
July 4 - July 26, 2009

Pictures from Fotoreporter Sirotti for Stage 7, Friday, July 10: Barcelona - Andora Arcalis, 224 km

Back to 2009 Tour Page.

Brice Feillu bolted from his breakaway companions on the final ascent and, to everyone's surpise, held the gap to the end. He looks like he could beat the Schleck brothers in a skinny contest.
Contador looks back just after he bolted from the lead chase group.
Andy Schleck leads the chase for Contador with Evans, his brother Franck, Armstrong and I think, Bradley Wiggins.
Meanwhile, Yellow Jersey Fabian Cancellara hit the wall early on the final climb. Here he's paced by teammate Gustav Larsson.
Contador kept pushing all the way to the top, gaining 21 seconds on the rest of the cotenders.
Feillu takes the stage with Christophe Kern hot on his heels.
Contador has asserted his superiority. Here he crosses the line, almost catching one of the early breakaways, Jose Ivan Gutierrez.
Cadel Evans leads the rest of the best across the line while Andy Schleck looks back.
Mmm, feels good, really, really good. Shock Yellow Jersey Rinaldo Nocentini probably can't believe his good fortune that after staying away he leads the Tour de France. Bernard Hinault seems to be helping him.
At 8 seconds, Armstrong remains tantalizingly close to the lead.
