The 2009 Giro starts in Venice with a team time trial on the famous Venice Lido. On the Thursday before the start, the teams were presented in Venice. Here, the riders the Italians call "I Big" go for a gondola ride. The closest boat looks to have Di Luca and Basso facing. Others in the picture, although I can't pick them out, are Simoni, Armstrong, Cunego, Menchov, Sastre and Garzelli.
