May 29, Friday: Photos from Stage 19, Avellino - Vesuvio, 164 km.

Once the Mount Vesuvius climb began, the attacks were savage and relentless. Here Garzelli tries one of several while Pellizotti is gapped by Menchov.
Di Luca would not give up. Over and over he tried to drop Menchov, but the Russian stuck to him like a limpet.
Everyone knew Sastre would go, but there wasn't much anyone could do about it. I think this is Pellizotti he has just whizzed by.
Sastre earned a brilliant stage win, but his winning margin wasn't nearly enough to put him in contention for the Maglia Rosa.
Completely spent, Di Luca leads an equally exhausted Menchov over the finish line.
