Story of the Tour de France

2009 Giro D'Italia
May 9 - May 31, 2009

May 28, Thursday: Photos from Stage 18, Sulmona - Benevento, 181 km.

Very early in the stage a break of 25 formed that would make it all the way to the finish. Here Giovanni Visconti leads up the Piano delle Cinque Miglia . Eventual stage winner Michele Scarponi is on the left.
Behind, the pack didn't seem too motivated to catch the break. Di Luca (purple) stays close to Menchov.
Lance Armstrong looked comfortable as he finds his form improving every day.
Michele Scarponi was the surprise winner in the sprint for the stage win, with Felix Cardenas (red, on left) second, Danny Pate (next to Cardenas) third and Lars Ytting Bak (black and white kit) fourth.
No drama as Di Luca and Menchov crossed the line together.
