Story of the Tour de France

2009 Giro D'Italia
May 9 - May 31, 2009

May 12, Tuesday: Photos from Stage 4, Padova - San Martino di Castrozza, 165 km. High mountains with a hilltop finish.

On the lower slopes of the final climb with the Astanas sticking together. Armstrong is in sunglasses. Ivan Basso is just to Armstrong's left.
Basso, the center of the 3 Liquigas riders looks comfortable on the climb. I think the Columbia rider on the left of the picture is the new Maglia Rosa, Thomas Lovkvist.
Armstrong was riding a lot of the climb further back in the pack than is his norm. He wasn't funnin' us when he said he hadn't achieved his full form yet.
Juan Mauricio Soler launched an incendiary attack in the final kilometer. He came damn close to making it stick.
The Killer sweeps by Soler in a superbly timed last-minute move. Di Luca wins the stage and makes his sparkling form abundantly clear.
