Giro d'Italia 2009
Route Presentation

Saturday, December 13: RCS sport presented the 2009 Giro route. Here are a few pictures from that day.

Since the first stage of the 2009 Giro will take place in Venice, the route was presented in Venice. And not just anywhere in Venice, but in the historic and beautiful La Fenice opera house. In 1996 the theater burned down for a second time. The rebuilding was completed in 2003. The name La Fenice (The Phoenix) seems particularly appropriate.

The locals. Here are the top Italian General Classification hopes, from the left: Stefano Garzelli, Gilberto Simoni, Danilo Di Luca and Ivan Basso. It won't be an easy romp for these gents. Lance Armstrong, Denis Menchov and Carlos Sastre are planning to join the party.
