Story of the Tour de France

2008 Giro D'Italia
May 10 - June 1, 2008

Pictures by Fotoreporter Sirotti from Thursday, May 29: Stage 18, Mendrisio - Varese, 147 km.

This is the break that went the distance. It's easy to see why. Leading is Paolo Bettini with Daniele Bennati (in purple) and Jens Voigt (in CSC kit). Also in the break are Giovanni Visconti, Gabriele Bosisio and Rinaldo Nocentini. Plenty of horsepower with no threat to the GC.

Astana had to take up the peloton policing duties. There were no changes to the GC in the upper placings.

Outa the way! Jens Voigt charges off the front of the break for a solo win.

Here he gets the stage win after being off alone for 36 kilometers.
